Be a super hero - donate blood today.
WHY DONATE?
Blood donation is important because blood is a life-saving resource that's used in many procedures and treatments. According to the Red Cross, someone in the United States needs blood every two seconds.
Blood donations are used to treat a variety of conditions, including:
Transfusions: Replace blood lost due to injury or surgery
Red blood cells: Treat blood disorders, acute blood loss, and babies born early
Platelets: Treat cancer, open-heart surgery, and organ transplants
Plasma: Contains proteins that help fight infections and control bleeding
Blood can only be stored for a limited time, so a regular supply from healthy donors is needed to ensure it's available when and where it's needed. However, only about 3% of people who are eligible to donate blood do so each year. A single donation can save up to three lives.
