City Government Week

FL City Government Week (FCGW) Logo ThumbAnnually in October - The City of Weston celebrates City Government Week annually with the kick off of the new program year for Weston University (which runs October – May) and the I Led the Pledge program, which features the participation of students of local elementary schools to lead the Pledge of Allegiance at City Commission meetings during the school year. Florida’s municipalities belong to the Florida League of Cities, an organization of local governments whose goals are to serve the needs of Florida’s cities and promote local self-government.  The City may participate in several initiatives annually.


If I Were Elected Mayor... Essay Contest!

Florida League of Mayors (FLM) logo ThumbThe Florida League of Mayors is hosting an Essay Contest for Florida middle school students. Three winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd place) will be awarded gift cards and will be recognized by their mayor at their city commission meeting. In no more than 250 words, students should begin their essays with "If I were elected mayor..." and describe how you would make a difference as Mayor AND how Home Rule helps make your city a great place to live.

Deadline for Essay Submissions:  Monday, January 31, 2023, download application.

Applications and essays can be submitted by mailing to FLM, PO Box 1757, Tallahassee, FL 32302 or submit an application and essay online.
