Tree Removal and Planting Guidelines

Residential and Commercial Properties

The City of Weston has a very strict Tree Preservation Ordinance in place to maintain the look and feel of Weston's landscaped environment and to encourage the development of a tree canopy throughout the City.

The Tree Preservation Ordinance, City Ordinance, Chapter 122, was adopted to perpetuate the protection, preservation and conservation of existing trees, natural areas, and landscaped open space as an effective means of conserving energy and to preserve trees to improve the aesthetic quality of the City thereby promoting the health and general welfare of the community.

The City's tree canopy is protected via the permitting process for tree removal. In the evaluation of a Tree Removal permit, priority is given to protected trees for the preservation or relocation, replacement, and/or payment into the Weston Tree Trust Account.   Every effort is made to preserve and maintain natural vegetation within the City as identified in the City's Comprehensive Plan.  Please contact the City's Tree Preservation Division at 954-385-0500 or via email to discuss the process for tree relocation, removal or replacement on residential and/or commercial property.

Tree Removal

Need a tree removal permit or unsure if a permit is required to remove a tree on your residential property?

Please contact the City's Tree Preservation Division at 954-385-0500 or via email to discuss the specific issue on your property.

All tree/palm trimming, removal, relocations, and root pruning not done by the homeowner themselves, must be done by a City of Weston registered tree service provider in accordance to City Code Chapter 122.

Landscape Maintenance Inside Gated or Private Communities

The Homeowners Association (HOA) maintains all of the infrastructure, roadways and landscaping within your private community.  For any maintenance or landscaping issues within your community, please contact your association.

The City does maintain a majority of the water bodies/lakes inside the communities, though some are privately owned.  For questions or concerns on lake maintenance, please call 954-385-2600.

Landscape Watering (Irrigation) Guidelines

The South Florida Water Management District sets guidelines for landscape irrigation and may issue more strict guidelines during dryer conditions.  Regular guidelines include watering on certain days of the week, as determined by address, and during certain times of the day.  Visit sfwmd.gov for current details.

Landscaping of Commercial Properties

Landscaping must match the original, approved site plan.

Please contact the City's Tree Preservation Division at 954-385-0500 or via email to discuss changes or removal requests.
