For the twenty-second consecutive year, the Government Finance Officers Association has recognized the City of Weston with the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the period beginning October 2023.
The award represents a standard of excellence continually achieved via the commitment of the Budget and Finance Departments to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive this award, a government entity has to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.
These guidelines are designed to measure how well the budget serves as:
- a policy document
- a financial plan
- an operations guide
- a communications device.
Budget documents must be rated "proficient" in all four categories, and in the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award. This award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting, judged by a panel of independent reviewers, and represents a significant achievement.
This year, the City’s Director of Budget, Bryan Cahen, once again receives this honor. With nearly 11 years of service in Weston, Bryan, a resident of the city, shares his life with his beautiful wife Charlene and their two children, both educated in Weston schools. Ian, their son, is set to graduate summa cum laude from the University of Central Florida in May, while their daughter Jolie is wrapping up her first year at Valencia College in Orlando. Beyond his financial duties, Bryan finds relaxation in painting, creating art, running, and immersing himself in audio books.
