Standards protect surrounding property owners and tenants, who might otherwise suffer from substandard conditions. The Code of Ordinances creates the minimum standards for the betterment of our neighborhoods from having property values negatively affected by substandard conditions.
There are two sections on Minimum Standards of Maintenance. The first, subsection 95.01(B), is for Multi-Family residential development and Association properties. This would cover those in a Homeowner's Association and, condo buildings and rental apartments. The second, subsection 95.02, is for Commercial and Industrial Development/Undeveloped Land, such as shopping plazas, warehouse areas, or vacant property.
It is Code Enforcement who enforces these standards in an effort to promote, protect and improve the health, safety, and welfare of the residents of the City.
Code Enforcement has specific goals:
- Protecting and enhancing the overall appearance and safety of the community.
- Compliance with Code of Ordinances makes our community a safer and more vibrant environment.
- Promote and encourage voluntary compliance and always, the department is available to assist.
The City has information available for homeowners, renters, property managers and businesses to assist in our education about the Minimum Standards for Maintenance hoping to ensure that everyone knows the rules, the most common areas of concern, how to make a code violation complaint and how to get assistance and work through violations with our team.
The City website has an entire section on Code Enforcement, going over the Code of Ordinances, citations, code complaints and case searches, fines, and frequent inquiries.
We produce two informational guides, available online and as a hard copy:
Below you will find an info-graphic which provides a quick glance at the areas of concern most frequently reported. It is an excellent reference to ensure properties are up to code! They are available through our Code Enforcement Department and City Hall.
