The fire rescue crew from Weston Fire Rescue Saddle Club Station No. 67 visited the YMCA Little Explorers program so that the children could explore the fire truck and learn how firefighters are their friends. It is important for children to understand ahead of an emergency or fire, that the rescue personnel entering their homes with the big coats and masks are there to help them. Children need to be taught not to hide from firefighters calling out for them in a smoke filled room.
Tips for parents:
- Children are curious about fire, NEVER leave unattended candles, matches or lighters. Make sure they stay far out of reach of inquisitive hands.
- Create a home safety plan and review the plan with your entire family. Practice your plan often and at different times of the day.
- Make sure your entire family knows where to meet and how to call 9-1-1 in an emergency.
