Commissioner Mead moved to Weston from Miami in 2008 after selling the business they had operated for several years in Broward County.  Shortly after moving in he attended board meetings at his Home Owners Association.  Within a few months he was asked to fill a vacancy on the board.  Commissioner Mead served for six years as treasurer and was then elected president.  He served in that capacity another six years and is still serving as of his election to commissioner.  He became involved with the city during the reconstruction of Peace Mound Park.  He has also been involved with the proposed rezoning of areas of the city, construction of the proposed park and ride, and has advocated before FAA and Broward Aviation officials for increasing altitudes of commercial aircraft over the city to abate noise and debris from jet engines.

Commissioner Mead was born in South Dakota and raised on a farm outside of Aberdeen.  While working full time on the family farm he graduated from a local college with degrees in English and Business.  Soon after graduation, he entered the army and served in Viet Nam.  He has been an entrepreneur, owning women’s retail shoe stores, a catering business, and a home health agency caring for patients requiring specialized care such as IV therapy, chemotherapy, and specialized wound care.

He has also worked in corporate environments as Regional Sales Manager for Thom McAn, covering 23 states, and as Manager of Warehousing for TecMarine, an ocean freight company headquartered in Miami with dock facilities at Port Everglades and a substation in Brooklyn.  His work has taken him to California, Massachusetts, and Minnesota.  He has held leadership positions in the North Dade Chamber of Commerce where he was appointed chairman of the Legislative Action Committee, the Plantation Chamber of Commerce, where he served as Hospitality Chair, and the Clearwater, FL, Chamber of Commerce.  He has also served as chair of the Clearwater Mall and the Aventura Mall Merchants Associations.
