Through this program we are:

  • Building community by engaging community members in educational workshops, and installing wildlife-friendly gardens at home and in the community.
  • Wildlife conservation strategies are being implemented across our community by creating habitat for wildlife, increasing the use of native plants and reducing the use of harmful herbicide, pesticide, and other chemicals (e.g. fertilizers).
  • Beautifying an already lush community by encouraging landscaping with native wildflowers, trees and shrubs; and adding water features where possible to welcome native wildlife such as butterflies and birds.

The City of Weston is registered as a Community Wildlife Habitat through the National Wildlife Federation, and needs your help to attain full certification!

It's Easy

Anyone can create a welcoming haven for local wildlife. Turning your yard or balcony container garden into a Certified Wildlife Habitat® is fun, easy and makes a big difference for neighborhood wildlife.

  • Every habitat garden is a step toward replenishing resources for wildlife locally and along migratory corridors.
  • Your application processing fee of $20 supports the National Wildlife Federation's programs to inspire others to make a difference and address declining habitat for bees, butterflies, birds, amphibians and other wildlife nationwide.

Once you certify with the National Wildlife Federation you will automatically become recognized as a NatureScape and Broward County NatureScape will be happy to give you a free NatureScape sign to display!

NatureScape is about creating Florida-friendly landscapes that conserve water, protect water quality, and create wildlife habitat. NatureScape encourages the use of native plants because they are uniquely adapted to grow in South Florida. Did you know that landscape irrigation accounts for up to 50% of water consumption in Broward County? Or that landscape runoff remains a major source of water pollution?  Our plant choices and the way we maintain our yard can greatly impact our future water supplies.  To Learn about NatureScape click here.

Native Plant

Sweet Bay Magnolia

Did you know the best thing you can do for your home garden is use native plants?  It's true!

Native plants provide multiple benefits to your lawn. Native plants require less fertilizer, pesticides and water, making them easier to care for and better for the environment. They also sequester carbon from the air and save both you and the community money. Native plants promote biodiversity and provide food and shelter for wildlife.
