City of Weston, FL
Home MenuShelter Information
The City of Weston is not in an evacuation zone, but if your home is unprotected or unsafe you may consider a shelter option. Emergency shelters are a service of the Broward County Commission, American Red Cross, Broward County School Board, and Florida Department of Health in Broward. No registration is required.
Shelters are intended to keep you safe, not supply entertainment or personal items. You will need to bring essential items to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
General Population Shelters
As a storm approaches, Broward County emergency managers will determine the need for shelters, primarily to house those that must evacuate the coastline and low-lying areas of the County; however, shelters are open to anyone in Broward County.

Special Needs Shelters
Visit Broward.org/AtRisk for details on the Special Needs Shelter registry and Vulnerable Population registry. Both should be done at the beginning of the storm season annually.
Pet-Friendly Shelter
Broward County operates some Pet-Friendly Shelters as an option of last resort. Pets are not allowed in the County's General Population Shelters. Shelters are opened as need is determined. Not every shelter is open for every storm/emergency activation. Link to General Population and Pet Friendly Shelters.
- Call the Humane Society of Broward County to register for the Broward County Pet Friendly Shelter in advance at: 954-989-3977.
- Owners must stay with their pets at the shelter and care for them. Shelters do not provide supplies, only basic cover from the storm.
Note that only service animals are permitted in General Population Shelters, so long as the pet meets the requirements under Federal law.
