The National Weather Service issues severe weather warnings (also known as Weather Emergency Alerts (WEA) as needed. Alerts are sent automatically to WEA-capable phones during an emergency. You do not need to subscribe to receive them, as most cellular phones have Emergency Alerts enabled.
How Do I Know WEA is Enabled on My Phone?
Many new cell phones are WEA-capable. Prepaid mobile devices may also be WEA-capable. For information about which mobile devices are WEA-capable, please contact your wireless carrier. Do not turn Emergency Alerts off. It's important to keep the feature on to ensure that you receive alerts for severe weather and other emergencies. (Some devices may have the option to turn off "Test Alerts", which will not impact you from receiving an active emergency alert.
Check your phone's settings under Notifications, Government Alerts to confirm that your device has the alerts enabled.
